Abstract
Life & Banc Split Corp

Setup

using my TradingView High Dividend Yield Trending Canadian Stocks Screener, I discovered Life & Banc Split Corp. by Brompton Funds. It’s paying about 9% div and was in the same batch of trades like BK.TO and FFN.TO but was a bit hard to get into. So despite the weekly chart (see Figure 2) showing that the stock might be coming to the end of an uptrend, I was eager to get in.

Figure 1: Daily Chart (entry’s marked in yellow, stop in pink)
Figure 2: Weekly Chart

Entry

Entering at the level of the fast EMA and stop at the slow EMA (11.73) with about $100 at risk:

  • Bot 400 shares @ 11.98 on 2026-02-12

the stop was rather tight at only 1.6 ATR away but it did let me build a fairly big position.

Update

2026-03-02

this has been a winning trade all the way thru ex-date on 2026-02-271, so on 2026-03-02 when it gap down by 0.1 (about 0.5 ATR) into the value size, I saw an opportunity to size up and have a slightly wider stop2 at 11.69:

  • Bot 250 @ 12.11 on 2026-03-02
  • Bot 250 @ 12.04 on 2026-03-02

this position added another 200CAD at risk.

Figure 3: added another 100 shares @ 14.27
Figure 4: weekly chart on 2026-03-02 still shows that the long-term uptrend is ending

Stop

stop of 11.73 and 11.69 were both hit the day after on 2026-03-03.

  • Sold 500 shares @ 11.69
  • Sold 400 shares @ 11.73

Loss: 292.5 CAD

Daily Chart on 2026-03-06, entries in yellow, stop in pink

Daily Chart on 2026-03-06, entries in yellow, stop in pink

Like the FFN.TO trade, this one’s actual lost was softened by the dividend received on 2026-02-27, so the net loss is only about 252.5 CAD.

Learning

When the long-term trend (see weekly chart Figure 4) is no longer up, perhaps it’s a sign to be more cautious next time and be more patient instead of pilling on more risk.

Footnotes

  1. dividend was 0.10 per share, and on ex it actually opened 0.06 higher from previous day’s close.↩︎

  2. as I learnt from those shape pull backs from BK.TO and FFN.TO↩︎
